Nigerians Governor's Forum An Impediment To Grassroots Development, - President Tinubu.
The President and the Commander in Chief of Nigeria Armed Forces Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had noted that the Nigeria Governors forum remain as an impediment to grassroots development.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja The President expressed his displeasure while speaking with newsmen in Abuja, saying their conduct had not helped the nation over the last two years buttressing that most of the governor's in Nigeria are transferring state allocations to private investment.
The President explained that since his assumption of office in 2023, state allocations had increased by 200 percent in a bid to encourage them to pay staff salaries, pensioners and also undertake capital projects that would enhance industrialisation in their respective states.
Asiwaju Tinubu maintained that the duty of the electorates in the country is to cast their vote and also hold their leaders accountable as regards good governance in their domain stressing that since the completion of the 2023 General Elections, the electorates have gone to sleep, resources without any caution.
The presidency expressed dissatisfaction that 18 serving State Governors were being investigated by the EFCC for gross misconducted as they could not account for billions of naira they collected as allocations.
President Tinubu spoke further that to even make the matters worst allocations meant for Local Government in some states in Nigeria were transferred to personal account as some Local Council could not deliver democracy dividends to the door steps of the people that elected them into power because they were being incapacitated with resources .
Asiwaju Tinubu urged Nigeria voters to hold their State Governors accountable, and that they should engage them in Town Hall meeting towards actualizing economic prosperity.
He lauded some State Governors in Nigeria for undertaking critical infrastructures that has rewritten the history of their state, adding that their best was not good enough as they failed to reduce wastage, so that the masses would be able to smile.
He charged State Governors to design programs and project that would have direct impact on the people they govern and also endeavour to release Local Government allocations in full so that the people at the grassroots would feel the pulse of good governance.
Sources attached to the Presidency revealed that Senators in Nigeria collected two billion naira annually as funds for constituency projects, while members of the House of Representatives received huge amount of money for constituency project also, stressing the need for the people to challenge their representatives on good governance.
